A little bit of Humor

I have been through 3 major hurricanes, two severe tropical storms yet it was not till I was pregnant that I said to my husband I am getting a weather radio. I had mention it before but it got shrugged off.

At the time we lived in a mobile home. And if there was a chance for severe weather such as a tornado I want to have a brief moment where I can take cover. Hurricanes at least you can prepared as best as possible. But I am terrified of tornado’s.

It was this past Feburary, we had a warm stretch which was odd for the time. One night a cold front was approaching along with storms right behind. Perfect combo for a tornado. We got my daughter off to sleep and about an hour later we headed to bed too. I just fallen asleep and the next thing I knew the alarm was going off on the radio. I am the one who usually runs to hear it. My husband got up quickly headed off to the kitchen to listen to the report.

I was half asleep and did not catch any of it. The next thing I knew my husband was crawling back in bed. I asked so what did it say? He goes oh just a warning for a hard frost? HUH? Though I was completely exhausted from the lack of sleep cause of my daughter I just fell right back to sleep not really questioning what he said. About an hour later I woke up to the wind howling outside……

I am thinking holy crap……I can hear the rain pelting off the car port. The wind was so strong that it was shaking the entire trailer. I just froze. I was thinking about the huge pine tree my neighbors had. If that would to fall it would land right in our bedroom. It seemed like eternity that the weather was terrible. But the worst of it only lasted about 20 minutes. It got quieter and just continued to rain.

The next morning I talking to my best friend. Both were commenting on the crazy weather from the night before. She goes I was going to call you and see if you were ok. I asked why? She said well didn’t you listen to the report from the weather radio? Ummmmmm……no my husband did. Well, she goes it said there was a tornado watch and within 20 minutes or so we should have sought shelter. WHAT? She goes I thought you knew. No, I didn’t.

Now I look back and can chuckle about it. My husband wont live it down saying it was just a warning for a hard frost. So the morale of the story….I will get up and listen to it when the alarm goes off.
